And it seems to me that this is a first that deal with the subject of war / genocide Cambodian (1975-79) in this format (animation) even if there has been a lot of documentary and books. the approach is the angle remains unprecedented so Funan’s interest is directed to a wide audience and tries to write this period of history quite dark. in the life and hard life of a mother (Chou) who lost her 5 year old child during the forced evacuation of Phnom Penh, as well as forced labor in the Khmer countryside, everything is treated with precision. we would have liked more sequences of the family of Chou in Phnom Penh the capital, but it does not last long just a few sequences it’s a shame. the basic and minimalist frame with pretty bright colors to create it is certainly wanted and assumed a distance effect, with the already contained content of this XXth century human tragedy. to see and think about whether this echoes in your lives.
